Custom Attributes (Pro)

Custom Attributes (Pro)

With Elementor Pro, you can add custom attributes to the wrapper of every Section, Column or Widget. This enables the addition of data-* attributes, ARIA attributes (accessibility) and values, header, footer, sidebar, rel=*, and other attributes that can be found here: https://www.tutorialspoint.com/html5/html5_attributes.htm

Add Custom Attributes to Sections, Columns, or Widgets

Right-click on the edit button of the element and click Edit section to open the section』s settings panel. Likewise, if editing a Widget, right-clicking will show the option to Edit Widget, and editing a Column will show Edit Column.Go to Advanced > AttributesAdd your code for the element to the editor, using the format key|value. For example, to add role=」presentation」 to the element』s HTML, enter role|presentation here.

Tip: Set custom attributes for the wrapper element, with each attribute in a separate line. Separate attribute key from the value using the | character. If you need to add multiple properties for one attribute, use a space between them.

Example of one property for one attribute:

data-spots|round

Example of two properties for one attribute:

data-spots|round long

In this example, data-spots is our custom attribute, and round and long are the properties of the attribute. When you view the source code that is output, it will look like this:

data-spots=」round long」

Compatibility Tags

Compatibility Tags

As an open-source project, Elementor includes an extensive developers API, enabling the creation of a vast eco-system of 3rd party extensions that build on and enhance Elementor』s capabilities. In fact, there are over 500 addons that extend Elementor』s capabilities.

When 3rd party developers don』t update their extensions to make them compatible with the latest versions of Elementor, Elementor users can experience problems with their sites.

To protect your sites from possible future conflicts, we created a Compatibility Tag that notifies users about plugins that may not be compatible with their currently-installed version of Elementor. This will make it easier to debug issues if any arise.

This compatibility tag mechanism allows external developers to declare their compatibility and maintain their plugin headers and versions, which lets users know which plugin they need to update before Elementor updates.

Look for the compatibility tag next to any 3rd party plugins you are using before updating Elementor. If there is no compatibility tag, but Elementor knows that the 3rd party plugin is not compatible with a new version of Elementor, a message will be displayed if it is not safe to continue with the update.

For example, you may see an alert, followed by a list of incompatible plugins, similar to this:

Compatibility Alert – Some of the plugins you』re using have not been tested with the latest version of Elementor. To avoid issues, make sure they are all up to date and compatible before updating Elementor.

If compatibility tag compliance is followed, users will see a decrease in the chance of clashes, conflicts, and instability between an Elementor new release and any addons or plugins that are incompatible with it.

Compatibility tags provide transparency and information as to which plugins should be updated before Elementor updates. This mechanism reduces conflicts when using Elementor with external addons and 3rd party pluginsThis transparency and accountability for addons helps create the optimal experience for both plugin developers and for users because it reduces the friction that is sometimes experienced when add-ons conflict with new Elementor releases.

Elementor encourages all addon developers to add the compatibility tag to their plugins. Learn how.

LANDING PAGES

Q: How many landing page templates do you offer?

A: Currently, there are 46 landing page templates available

Q: Are landing pages available on the free version of Elementor?

A: Landing pages are available on both the Free and Pro version of Elementor

Q: Does Elementor Pro offer more templates than the free version?

A: Yes, you can sign up for Elementor Pro to enjoy all of the landing page templates

Q: Can I A/B test different landing pages?

A: Currently, we do not offer A/B testing via Elementor but you can use 3rd-party solutions compatible with Elementor.

Q: Can I move existing templates I』ve saved for landing pages into the new landing page section?

A: Although you can』t drag and drop an existing saved template to the Landing Pages saved templates list, you can do the next best thing. Create a new landing page, insert your existing saved template into it, and save the landing page. You』ve effectively duplicated the design into the Landing Page templates for reuse later.

Q: Can I import landing pages from other landing page platforms?

A: No, the Elementor Template Library only includes Elementor Templates.

EXPERIMENTS

Q: I thought that the Developer Edition was the one with experimental features?

A: The developer version includes features that are high risk, features that 「pre-date beta」. It』s a public alpha that gives our dev team feedback on testing features.

The experiments in the feature release are mature features that users can decide whether to activate or not. It』s an important precaution for users who want to update.

Both the developer edition and experiments allow us to increase our release rate and be more innovative, basically ship more features more frequently.

Q: What does 「Default」 mean?

A: The default value can either be Active or Inactive and is defined by Elementor per experiment per release. The default can change according to conditions like new or existing websites.

Q: Can I deactivate an experiment if I no longer want to use it?

A: Yes! You can deactivate experiments at any time.

Q: Can you remove an experiment?

A: Yes, each experiment has a status. When the status is in Alpha phase, it can change multiple times. They are named because they are experimental and tend to change and evolve.

Q: Can these experiments affect live pages?

A: Of course. Please keep in mind that when using experiments features can change or be removed.

Q: What happens if I change an experiment to inactive after I already used it?

A: If it was a visual experiment such as an extra widget, and you used it in your site this widget will disappear once the experiment is deactivated.

Q: Will you let us know before an experiment is removed?

A: Yes, we will communicate before removing experiments.

Q: How do you decide which experiments to keep?

A: We decide based on your feedback, the stability, and performance of the feature.

ACCESSIBILITY

Q: How does this help me?

A: Making websites accessible is best practice. In addition, this can improve the ranking and accessibility of your site.

Q: Why is this an experiment?

A: The html output has been changed and can influence custom code implemented in your site.

Q: Why is this experiment automatically turned on?

A: The experiment is turned on only for new installations of Elementor – new sites

IMPROVED ASSET LOADING

Q: Do I need to manually activate this?

A: You need to go to the experimental section in the settings and turn it on.

Q: Why do I need to activate it?

A: because it contains some changes in the files you load and can affect the way your site behaves if there are 3rd party addons that depends on Elementor to load certain script.

Q: What does this actually do?

A: This experiment currently loads only required JS handlers and the Swiper library in each page load. For example if you don』t have an Image Carousel widget in your page – your visitor won』t load the swiper.js file or other JS files related to this specific widget. It loads scripts conditionally.

Q: Does this apply to Pro widgets as well?

A: You will have to download the latest version of Elementor Pro to use Improved Asset Loading Properly. Further improvements may be included in the next Elementor Pro version.

Q: I』m using a 3rd party plugin for Elementor and it stopped working with this experiment on. What should I do?

A: If there』s any conflict with a 3rd party addon please deactivate this experiment and contact the plugin author to adjust his addon to use conditional loading.

ֿQ: My site got slower, not faster. What gives?

We saw the performance improvements have a positive impact on speed and load time, and this will only get better once we roll out 3.1 Pro. However, a few users noted a decrease in load speed. This is very likely due to a rare server issue.

We introduced a new method for attaching a JS handler to an element, thus enabling to break the loading method into small chunks. Users with the HTTP/2 protocol active in their sites will benefit from efficient loading, due to Multiplexing. This allows a browser to request all the assets in parallel resulting in a dramatic performance gain.

Q: What is HTTP/2 protocol?

A: Instead of linear loading of assets, it will load in a parallel way. The breaking into chunks will increase the requests the site is creating but will handle them more efficiently if the server supports it. AND – we haven』t yet introduced the Pro version reference for this – so when it will be released you will see an additional, likely stronger, impact.

You can read about the new HTTP2 protocol here: https://www.pingdom.com/blog/will-http-2-make-your-site-faster/

DOM IMPROVEMENTS

Q: Didn』t you already do this? Why is this happening again, now?

A: DOM improvements were introduced in 3.0, and caused conflicts for our users. In this release, we removed it and added it back in as an experiment. It is now active on New sites only.

COMPATIBILITY TAGS

Q: How does this help me?

A: To protect your sites from possible future conflicts, we created a Compatibility Tag that notifies you about plugins you are using that may not be compatible with your currently-installed version of Elementor.

Q: How will I know if a plugin is incompatible with the latest version of Elementor?

A: You will receive an alert. For example, you may see an alert in the list of plugins in your dashboard that says something like this:

Compatibility Alert – Some of the plugins you』re using have not been tested with the latest version of Elementor. To avoid issues, make sure they are all up to date and compatible before updating Elementor.

This alert will be accompanied by a list of the plugins that may be problematic.

Popup FAQs

Popup FAQs

Design

Can I display the Popup in any corner on the screen?

Yes, you can control the horizontal (left, center, right) and vertical (top, middle, and bottom) positions of the Popup window.

Are there pre-designed Popup templates to choose from?

Yes! We currently have over 100 beautifully designed Popup templates to choose from.

Can I place a form in a Popup?

Yes, placing an Elementor form into a Popup is one of the most common uses of Popups. However, third-party form scripts may not work in the Popup Builder by default. If you are using a third party form, such as Contact Form 7, for example, please contact your plugin』s development team and let them know that they can resolve this by implementing the code mentioned in this developer』s guide. Also note this code example.

Can I place any Elementor widget in a Popup?

Absolutely! Design your Popup in the same way you would design any page using Elementor. Include forms, widgets, templates, and other elements as you wish.

Occasionally, Popup margins don』t work the way I set them? Why?

There are some edge cases where the margins you set for popup windows will be overridden. This is because the flexbox grid system』s flex alignment is stronger than the margin, so it takes precedence. If you are attempting to add a positive right margin, for example, and it isn』t taking effect, try adding a negative left margin instead.

Can I design the Popup window itself?

Yes. Elementor Popups feature the most advanced Popup design capabilities ever. Set color, image or gradient backgrounds for Popups, or design transparent Popups. You can also set borders and box shadows for the frame of the Popup window. The overlay options for the external area outside the Popup includes color, image and gradient background options. Even the close button can be fully customized. This includes position (inside or outside), vertical and horizontal positioning, color, background color and size. Almost all these styling features also include mobile editing, making it easy to customize Popups for different devices.

I』ve designed my Popup』s content, so I see the content settings in the Elementor Panel. How do I view and edit the Popup settings again?

Click the Settings gear icon in the Panel toolbar to view and edit the Popup settings again.

Control

Can I trigger the Popup from anywhere on my page?

Yes, we have various triggers, rules, and conditions that determine when a Popup occurs. You may 「manually trigger」 Popups via Dynamic Actions or Form Actions After Submit or 「automatically trigger」 Popups via Conditions, Triggers, and Advanced Rules.

I don』t want a Popup to appear on all devices? Can I control that?

Yes, you can choose to only display Popups on Desktop, Tablet, and/or Mobile devices via Publish Settings > Advanced Rules > Show on Devices

Can I display a few pop-ups on the same page?

Of course. Troll your visitors as much as you want.

If I create several Popups for different scenarios, can I prevent more than one being shown to a user?

Yes, use Popup Settings > Advanced > Avoid Multiple Popups

Can I prevent users from scrolling the screen behind the Popup?

Yes, use Popup Settings > Advanced > Disable Page Scrolling

Can I control how and when the Popup closes?

Yes, there are several ways to control this. You can either show or hide the Close button, or set it to only be shown after a set of amount of time after the Popup loads. You can allow the user to close the Popup by clicking outside the window, on the background overlay. You can allow the user to close the Popup by clicking the Close button. You can set the Popup to automatically close after a set amount of time. You can use a form』s Action After Submit option to close a PopupYou can use an element』s Dynamic Action to close a Popup

Can I only show a Popup if the user is leaving the page?

Yes, the On Page Exit Intent is a very popular Trigger. Setting this will display the Popup when the user』s mouse activity indicates intent to exit the page. Exit intent does not work on Mobile devices, however, as mobile devices do not have mouse hover ability.

Can I show a Popup if the user arrives to the page from a search engine?

Yes, several Advanced Rules allow you to control the display of Popups based on where the user arrives from, including arriving from a URL that you specify, or from search engines, external links, and internal links.

Do I have to set Conditions, Triggers, and Advanced Rules?

No, you don』t have to set any Publish Options. However, if you don』t set a Trigger, you will need to assign a Dynamic Action to Open Popup on an element』s link, such as a button』s link. Without a Trigger or an Open Popup Action assigned, the Popup will never be shown. See How Do I Create My First Popup to learn how to trigger a Popup when a button is clicked.

Can I open a Popup after a form is submitted?

Yes. From the form』s 「Actions After Submit」 options, choose 「Open Popup」, and then select which Popup to show after the form has been submitted.

My form is in a Popup. Can the Popup be automatically closed once the form is submitted?

Yes. Add a form inside a Popup, and then from the form』s  「Actions After Submit」 options, click 「Close Popup」.

What』s the difference between a Trigger and an Advanced Rule?

Triggers function as direct user actions that initiate, or 「trigger」, the display of a Popup (i.e. clicking or scrolling), whereas Advanced Rules determine the requirements that must be met for the Popup to appear regardless of direct user actions (i.e. the user visited page at least two times).

What is a Condition?

Conditions determine where to display the Popup (i.e. the entire site, all archives, on a specific URL, etc.). Learn more about Conditions.

What is a Session?

A session starts when the user visits the website and ends when the user closes the browser.
